When hiring a caterer for a summer barbecue, there are several factors to consider ensuring that your event is a success. Here are some key steps to take: 1. Define your needs : Start by determining the size of your event, the number of guests you expect, what type of food you want to serve and any dietary restrictions or preferences. This will help you communicate your requirements clearly to potential caterers. 2. Research caterers: Look for caterers who have experience or specialize in barbecue or outdoor events. You can ask for recommendations from friends, family, or colleagues, or search online for local catering companies. Read reviews and check their menus to see if they offer the type of food you're looking for. 3. Check their experience: It's important to hire a caterer with experience in handling outdoor events, especially barbecues. Ask about their experience, request references, and inquire about the types of events they have catered in the past. 4. Consider and discuss BBQ type and size you want and need. You can’t easily BBQ food for 100 to all eat at the same time on a Backyard size BBQ. 5. Menu options: Discuss menu options with the caterer to ensure they can provide the type of food you want for your barbecue. Some Caterers offer only set menu choices others are flexible and will accommodate any choices you would like. Consider options like grilled meats, side dishes, salads, and desserts. Make sure they can accommodate any dietary restrictions or special requests. 6. Budget: Have a clear budget in mind and discuss pricing with the caterer. Make sure to ask about any additional fees, such as delivery, setup, rentals including Plates/ cutlery and of course the BBQ itself , also service charges. Get a detailed quote in writing to avoid any surprises later on. 7. Tastings : If needed, request a tasting with the caterer to sample their food and ensure it meets your expectations. This will also give you an opportunity to discuss any changes or adjustments to the menu. 8. Services offered: Inquire about the services the caterer provides, such as setup, serving staff, equipment rental, and cleanup. Make sure they can handle all aspects of the catering to make your event run smoothly. 9. Timing: Ensure you communicate the agenda and timing for the day. BBQ takes time so be prepared that the caterer if BBQ on site will need time for setup, prep and cooking time. This could mean the Caterer will need access to the site up to 3-4 hours prior to food service. 10. Contract: Once you have selected a caterer, make sure to get a detailed contract outlining all the services, menu options, pricing, and terms of agreement. Review the contract carefully before signing to avoid any misunderstandings later on. By following these steps and doing your due diligence, you can hire a caterer for your summer barbecue that will help make your event a memorable and delicious experience for you and your guests.
